Council denies request to cut down street tree
A request to Bogan Shire Council to remove a large Lemon Scented Gum tree in Ellen Street, Nyngan has been denied following an inspection by an arborist.

A concerned resident wrote to council in 2024 to request the street tree be removed as they believed falling limbs posed a danger to their property and to the safety of people passing underneath it.
Bogna Shire Council’s director of infrastructure services, Grayden Curry, provided a report to the February council meeting which included recommendations from an arborist who recently inspected the tree.
Mr Curry said the tree was deemed to be in “good” health overall, with a dense canopy and no significant pest or disease problems. The arborist found the level of risk posed by the tree was “broadly acceptable” but recommended council organise a reduction pruning and selective branch removal within six months to take out branches most likely to cause significant damage if they fell.
The resident wrote to council saying they were “petrified” of the tree, specifically that the branches would “fill up with gas and explode” causing damage to their electricity line, garden shed, clothes line and most of their house.
The resident said concern over the tree had caused them stress which had exacerbated their health issues.
Council will now advise the resident the tree has been inspected by an arborist and deemed healthy, and will not be removed. It will also undertake the pruning as recommended by the arborist’s, and include the tree in council‘s tree inventory.
