The Nyngan Golf Club enjoyed another busy and successful week on the fairways, with the club’s female golfers continuing their strong run of form across multiple competitions.
Wednesday’s nine-hole Stableford event saw Abigail McLaughlin produce an impressive round of 23 points to claim victory. Kate Yabsley finished runner-up with 20 points, while Robyn Harris secured third place on 18 points.
Michael Beetson finished fourth on a countback with 17 points. Kylie Currans claimed the nearest-the-pin prize on the 14th hole, while Robert Read was the lucky player winner.
The women again dominated Saturday’s MSD Mining Solutions Monthly Medal, with Skye Douglas producing a superb round of 43 stableford points to take out the event.
Skye’s golf has improved significantly in recent months and her latest performance highlighted her growing confidence and consistency.
Jodi Douglas finished second on 38 points after a countback from Kylie Currans in third place, while Wayne Holmes and Tara McDermott also carded 38 points to round out the placings.
Nearest-the-pin winners on Saturday included Graham Tomek (second), Les Dorrington (fourth), Brendan Smith (9th), Mandy Martin (12th), Adrian Hawley (14th) and Pat Heenan (17th).
Kirsty Burley won the prize for nearest in two shots on the third hole, while Johnny Wynne claimed nearest in two on the 16th.
Several handicap changes were also recorded following the weekend’s play, with Skye Douglas’ outstanding round seeing her handicap reduced from 42 to 36. Lachy Wilson also enjoyed a drop from 14 to 12.
Sunday’s American Foursomes event saw the men finally breakthrough for a win, with Adrian Hawley and David Martin combining strongly to record a nett score of 66.625 and take victory. Dee Stephens and Mandy Martin finished runners-up with a nett score of 69.875.
Nearest-the-pin winners on Sunday were Dee Stephens (second), Mark Grimmond (fourth), Kylie Currans and Mark Grimmond for nearest in two on the eighth, Mandy Martin on the 14th, and Mandy Martin again on the 17th.
We were also pleased to welcome players back for Wednesday afternoon euchre games, while recent rain across the district was another positive talking point among members.
Volunteers are continuing to assist with course maintenance, including stick picking, raking, sanding and oiling greens ahead of another busy period for the club.
If you’re out and about at the golf course and have some spare time please get in touch with how you can help out.
