Water tower art close to finalisation

A river scene with culturally significant native flora and fauna has been chosen for the Nyngan water tower mural.

A river scene with culturally significant native flora and fauna has been chosen for the Nyngan water tower mural – although council will continue to liaise with the artist to finetune the design before showing it to the community.

Following widespread disappointment at the first concept drawings, council resolved to ask artists Scott Nagy and Krimstone to return to the drawing board and produce four separate concept designs – one each of the 1990 flood; the Bogan River; Nyngan Olympians; and mining and agriculture. Two revised river scene drawings were presented to the November council meeting.

Neither image was included in the business paper, but provided to councillors separately for their consideration. The artwork was not discussed in the public forum of the meeting, except councillor Richard Bootle moved a motion for general manager Derek Francis and councillor Emily Stanton to be delegated to continue discussions with the artist to finalise the work.

The motion was passed, but not unanimously. The re-submitted drawings were two versions of a Bogan River scene, with native flora and fauna specifically chosen for cultural significance to the area. The original palette was kept.

Bogan Shire Council decided to use Mr Nagy and Krimstone based on the work they have done for Lachlan Shire Council on the Tottenham water tower.

Mr Francis said council only had until the end of March to complete the project, so it was important to finalise the artwork. He said once the concept design had been finetuned, council would unveil it to the community for its feedback.
