It was the first time the team had played together, and they finished in a credible seventh position for the tournament.

Marea Johnson from Nyngan said the team improved throughout the tournament, and held its own against some well-established sides.

“Despite the challenges of distance and limited training opportunities, the Crows displayed strong commitment, teamwork, and community pride every time they took the field,” Maree said. “Their defence grew stronger with each game, and their attacking combinations began to shine, especially in the later rounds,” she added. Despite the geographical distance between the players, the team developed a special bond over the tournament, she believes. “The connection between city and country players, created a unique blend of speed, skill, and determination that truly represented the Wongaibon name. “Beyond the results, the players gained valuable experience, built lasting friendships, and represented their communities with pride and respect,” Maree revealed.

Maree said there was already keen interest from juniors and adults keen to play in the 2026 tournament and she expected the Wongaibon Crows to field additional teams.

“The Wongaibon Crows – Kiyamali U16s can hold their heads high,” she said.

With another year of development and continued support from families and communities across Sydney and Nyngan, the future looks bright for this talented young side.”

This year’s playing uniform was designed by Charli Selfe from Nyngan, she explained.

“The Crows major sponsors were Johnson Shearing, Pristine Finish Cleaning Service, Bogan Aboriginal Corporation, EWS Group, HT Tiling,” Maree said. “We would like to give a special mention to a silent donor,” she concluded.
